Description

Raccoon Beach is the nicest beach in Roosevelt Campobello International Park. It is a mostly gravel beach with some sand around Con Robinson Point. From the stairs that access Raccoon Beach, you can turn right and go a short distance past eroding cliffs. Just past the eroding cliffs, the beach takes a sharp turn out to a rocky point. There are usually ducks swimming in the protected area of the cove.

If you turn left at the stairs you will walk towards Con Robinson Point. There are more stairs that access the beach at Con Robinson Point. There are a few rocky outcrops off of Con Robinson Point. I visited one morning and there were several seals on the rocks. They swam away towards Liberty Point when they noticed my presence.

After Con Robinson Point, the gravel beach makes a large crescent. The beach is narrow near the point but after a short distance the widens out. The beach becomes quite high with quite a drop between the top and the water. There is a parking lot near the top of the beach. This parking lot is a short distance off the Glensevern Road. Continuing past the parking lot takes you into Herring Cove Provincial Park onto Herring Cove Beach. If you go out to the Glensevern Road and turn right, you will come to the Eagle Hill Bog Lookout Trail and the Rock of Gibraltar Trail.

Directions

The three access points to this beach walk are at Herring Cove Beach, Con Robinson Point, and Raccoon Beach. Drive in the Glensevern Road across the Roosevelt Cottage historic site. After 2.8 kilometres there is a split in the road. Keep left and you will soon come to the parking lot at Herring Cove Beach.

To get to Con Robinson Point, turn right at the split in the road and continue for another 500 metres. Then turn left onto the Con Robinson Point Road. The Con Robinson Point Road is a short road out to a parking area overlooking the point. There is a long staircase down to the beach near the parking area.
